Flipkart, a leading digital commerce platform in India, has inaugurated a new grocery fulfillment centre in Vizag. It is the second fulfillment centre in the state of Andhra Pradesh following Vijayawada.
This new facility aims to provide next-day deliveries to consumers across Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle, Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Srikakulam, and Vizianagaram while also generating over 1000 direct and indirect local job opportunities.
”Recognizing the increasing demand for fresh and quality groceries in the state, the new center is a necessary step, as Visakhapatnam aka Vizag is one of the fastest-growing e-commerce markets in the country,” says Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Flipkart Group.
Covering an extensive area of 77,000 sq ft, the fulfillment centre can handle over 8,000 orders daily. It also provides significant opportunities for local businesses, MSMEs, food processing companies, and farming communities/FPOs by giving them access to the nationwide market through the e-commerce platform.
Apart from that, Flipkart Grocery has also included innovative features like voice-enabled shopping, credit options, and open-box delivery, enhancing the shopping experience for consumers in tier-2 & 3 cities.
Since its inception in 2007, Flipkart has played a pivotal role in India’s digital commerce landscape, serving millions of consumers, sellers, merchants, and small businesses. With a registered customer base exceeding 400 million, Flipkart offers over 150 million products across 80+ categories. In 2008, Walmart, a leading retailer in the US, announced plans to invest in Flipkart. In 2023, Flipkart secured US$700 million from Walmart as part of its US$1 billion fundraising initiative.
