Dabur India Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu to set up a new consumer goods manufacturing facility in the state, marking Dabur’s first such unit in South India. The initial investment of Rs 135 crores is approved for Phase-1, with plans to scale up to Rs 400 crores over the next five years.

The MoU was signed at the Chennai Secretariat by Vishnu IAS, Managing Director of Guidance Tamil Nadu, and Mohit Malhotra, CEO, Dabur India Limited. The event was attended by Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, and other senior state government officials. Senior Dabur executives, including Global Head of Operations Rahul Awasthi and Manufacturing Head Hrishikesh Ramani, were also present.

The new multi-category manufacturing facility will be located in SIPCOT Tindivanam, Tamil Nadu, and will be one of Dabur’s most modern and environment-friendly units, designed to meet the growing demand in the South Indian market.

Mohit Malhotra expressed gratitude towards the Tamil Nadu government, stating, “We are grateful to the Government of Tamil Nadu, particularly the Department of Industries led by Hon’ble Minister Dr TRB Rajaa for his personal and proactive support and guidance, teams in Guidance Tamil Nadu, and SIPCOT, for their wholehearted support in facilitating this project. This investment will allow us to better serve the growing demand for our products in South India and strengthen our market presence in the region. We look forward to contributing to Tamil Nadu’s economic development by creating jobs and working closely with local vendors and supplier partners.”

He further added, “The strategic location of the new unit will enhance Dabur’s ability to meet business and logistical requirements more efficiently, thereby offering significant advantage and growth opportunities.”

Rahul Awasthi, Global Head of Operations, Dabur India Limited, said, “Our new facility at SIPCOT will be equipped with the latest technology, allowing us to maintain the highest standards of quality and operational efficiency in everything we produce. This will also enhance our sourcing of agricultural produce from local farmers in Tamil Nadu.”

This move is significant for the state as it will generate direct employment for around 250 people, besides creating thousands of indirect job opportunities. Additionally, the new facility will be designed with a focus on energy conservation in both its construction and operations. Emphasizing environmental responsibility, Dabur plans to construct an energy-efficient building while deploying the latest technology for effluent treatment. In addition, Dabur will extend its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs to the local community, reinforcing its commitment to supporting and developing communities around the areas they operate.
