What inspired you to pursue a career in the food and grocery sector?

I was attracted to the dynamism in the sector and the fact that it is one of those unique sectors that allow a possibility to interact and influence consumption habits.  

What part of your job brings you the greatest fulfillment?

I enjoy gathering shopper insights from market visits to develop meaningful category solutions. Extensive travel across the country allows me to engage with diverse teams, and customers, enriching my understanding of various cultures and enhancing my work.

What personal qualities or skills are essential for thriving in this industry?

Crucial qualities for success in this industry include a focus on developing robust structures and processes for sustainable growth, expertise in creating win-win scenarios through synergistic account management, and a dynamic leadership style that adapts to evolving challenges and fosters collaboration.

Any role model who has influenced you?

Over the past decade, I’ve worked under several exceptional managers who have guided my career. I’m particularly inspired by our current Managing Director and CEO at GCPL, Sudhir Sitapati, whose long-term vision for the company and innovative approach to category development and problem-solving are unparalleled.

Any memorable experience or achievement in your career that you’re proud of?

In FY’24, GCPL modern trade grew faster than most FMCG peers in the industry, delivering a revenue growth of 21% and significant shift of 3% in profitability. I’ve been associated with the channel in the company for past 3 years now and I am proud of the milestone we’ve achieved through a series of sequential steps rooted in systems and processes. We were recognized and awarded as the Best Division in India sales by the organization.

How do you stay motivated and inspired in your role?

The desire to create new benchmarks in the industry keeps me motivated in challenging times.

What’s the one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?

I am a fitness enthusiast and pursue Cardio and Yoga.

How do you stay current with the latest developments and innovations in your field?

I take relevant courses from sources like Harvard Business School and Nielsen to stay updated on management trends. Such courses include Disruptive Strategy by Clayton Christensen; Strategy Execution by Professor Robert Simons; and Practical Category Management by Allan Amador (Nielsen).

Any learnings that you would like to share?

The three key lessons I value deeply are: aim for win-win scenarios that foster sustainable, transparent relationships, prioritize over quick wins for greater efficiency, and embrace a focused portfolio or skill set for better results and higher returns.
