What does happiness mean to you? Is it the thrill of catching your favourite show after a long day, the comfort of a cozy evening with loved ones, or the joy of treating yourself to something delicious? Happiness isn’t just one feeling; it’s a spectrum of emotions, from contentment and excitement to comfort and celebration. No matter where you find yourself on that spectrum, snacking is always there by your side, enhancing those moments.
We have all heard the term “hangry” – that irritable feeling when hunger takes over and nothing seems right until you have had something to eat. Although have you ever wondered about the opposite? How a tasty snack can instantly brighten your day, boost your mood, and make everything feel a little better? As we approach the International Day of Happiness on March 20th, it is the perfect time to explore the fascinating connection between snacking and mood.
According to the STTEM 2.0 Snacking Report by Godrej Foods Ltd., snacking goes beyond simply satisfying hunger: it is about enhancing moments and lifting our spirits. Whether it is binge-eating during a movie night, grabbing a quick bite during a busy workday, or celebrating little joys with family and friends, snacking plays a powerful role in shaping our emotions.
Why Do We Snack? It is More Than Just Hunger
Sure, snacking fills the gap between meals but let us be real—most of the time, it is more than just a quick bite. Think about those work-from-home days when a cheesy, crispy snack gives you that much-needed energy boost or how popcorn becomes the ultimate companion during a movie marathon. We snack because it feels good, and that feel-good factor goes way beyond the taste itself.
According to the STTEM 2.0 Snacking Report, 67% of average Indians consume frozen snacks based on their mood or emotional state. Whether it is unwinding after a hectic day or celebrating a personal win, snacks are like that little pat on the back we give ourselves. In fact, 41% of Indians believe that their household celebrations are defined by the type of snacks served.
Frozen Snacks: The Real MVP of Mood Lifting
Have you ever found that just the sight of your favourite snack in the freezer calls for you? You are not imagining it—data from the report backs you up! An impressive 72% of Indians agree that frozen snacks are often chosen based on mood, with married individuals (75%) and women (74%) particularly favouring them as mood lifters. Interestingly, Amritsar tops the list with 80% of residents turning to frozen treats when content, followed closely by Kolkata at 77%.
And it is not just about being in a good mood—frozen snacks also come to the rescue when you need a little pick-me-up. Whether it is dealing with a tough day at work or just feeling a bit low, 60% of Indians admit to snacking when they want to elevate their mood. The report also highlights that 46% of health experts believe that tasty frozen snacks help during mood swings, proving that the connection between food and gratification is not just in our heads—it is real.
The convenience factor plays a big role here too. As Anushree Dewen, Lead of Marketing & Innovation, Godrej Foods Ltd, comments, “As innovations in frozen food technology continue to evolve, consumers can now enjoy their favourite snacks effortlessly, anytime they crave a moment of comfort. It’s incredible how freezing techniques preserve both flavour and nutrients, making these snacks not just convenient and delicious but also wholesome. A single bite can bring warmth and joy, turning everyday moments into something special.”
Comfort on a Plate
Imagine coming home after a long, tiring day and finding a plate of hot, crispy nuggets waiting for you. That simple indulgence instantly melts away the day’s stress and puts a smile on your face. In a world where our days are packed with deadlines and to-do lists, a little comfort food can feel like a well-deserved treat.
Interestingly, the report shows that the 41–45 age group is most likely to snack to uplift their mood (68%), with women (61%) leading over men (59%). Even when it comes to celebrating alone or with family, frozen snacks have become a staple for both single and married individuals, with a 56% and 63% share, respectively.
Snack Smart, Stay Happy
On this International Day of Happiness, let us take a moment to appreciate the little things that bring us joy—like our favourite snacks. Whether it is a bowl of crispy fries or some Crispy Fried Chicken, remember that happiness can be found in small bites too.
So, the next time you want to give yourself a mood boost, do not overthink it. Just grab that frozen delight from your freezer, and let the happiness follow.
