Amid rising tensions over private labelling by food aggregators Swiggy and Zomato, Union Minister Piyush Goyal has assured the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) of prompt action to address industry concerns.
NRAI President Sagar Daryani and Vice President Pranav M Rungta met Goyal in New Delhi, highlighting challenges such as high commission fees, lack of transparency, deep discounting, and the impact of private-label food brands like Swiggy Snacc and Blinkit Bistro on restaurant margins.
Daryani emphasized the industry’s crucial role in the economy, contributing 2% to GDP and 1.5% to GST revenues, while employing over 5.5 crore people. The NRAI also presented the India Food Services Report 2024, showcasing the sector’s 13% CAGR and significant job creation.
Meanwhile, Magicpin CEO Anshoo Sharma distanced his company from private labelling, reaffirming its commitment to supporting local businesses without operating dark stores or private-label food brands.
