The Government of India has sanctioned a Rs. 2,398.72 crore investment under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) to boost fisheries and aquaculture in Andhra Pradesh. This includes a Rs. 559.10 crore central share to support intensive aquaculture projects in ponds and tanks.
Between 2020-21 and 2024-25, 197 units have been approved for biofloc pond culture (freshwater & brackish water) and Recirculatory Aquaculture Systems (RAS), with an allocated cost of Rs. 63.97 crore. So far, the Centre has released ₹482.55 crore between 2020-21 and 2023-24, while Rs. 28.10 lakh has been utilized from the Rs. 38 crore sanctioned for 2024-25.
To further support the sector, the Andhra Pradesh government provides concessional power at Rs. 1.50 per unit to aquaculture farms up to 10 acres in notified aqua zones, while other farms receive power at Rs. 3.86 per unit. Additionally, Rs. 4,095.17 crore has been allocated as subsidies for concessional power to 68,134 aqua service connections from 2018 to 2025.
These initiatives are set to enhance fish production, promote sustainable aquaculture, and improve fish farmers’ livelihoods, solidifying Andhra Pradesh’s position as a leading hub for fisheries and aquaculture in India.
