Over half of the snack enthusiasts (55%) express a need for more snack inspiration in their lives, with millennials (69%) and Gen Z (67%) leading this trend. The same study reveals that 56% of consumers prefer discovering new snacks through digital channels rather than traditional in-person methods, with millennials (70%) and Gen Z (65%) particularly inclined towards online discoveries.

The impact of digital media on snacking trends is significant. Nearly 80% of consumers (78%) have bought or are planning to buy a snack in-store after encountering it online, with over half (52%) already making such purchases. This shift is evident in the rising popularity of plant-based snacks like banana chips, which are increasingly favored over traditional potato and yam chips.

According to Mondelez, 70% of people believe plant-based snacks are better for the environment, and 55% of consumers snack at least once a week. The market now offers a variety of plant-based options beyond the conventional potato chips, such as kale chips and quinoa puffs. However, taste remains a crucial factor, especially for younger consumers who are not willing to compromise on flavor. Banana chips, therefore, stand out as a superior option, offering both better nutrition and a more satisfying taste compared to traditional potato chips.

The pandemic intensified the focus on health and sustainability, accelerating interest in plant-based snacking. Today, there is a heightened emphasis on making healthier dietary choices. Despite this, price and taste continue to be primary factors influencing purchasing decisions. Consequently, snack manufacturers are challenged to develop plant-based options that balance nutritional value with exceptional taste.

In summary, the demand for savory plant-based snacks is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. Brands that successfully innovate with appealing flavors tailored to millennials are likely to excel in this evolving market. As consumer preferences shift, the snacking industry will need to adapt to meet the increasing appetite for healthier, plant-based alternatives.
