What inspired you to pursue a career in the food and grocery sector?

What part of your job brings you the greatest fulfillment?
One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is serving as a conduit between customers and the company, which provides invaluable insights. Additionally, traveling and meeting new people continuously enhance my learning and perspectives, fostering personal growth.
What personal qualities or skills are essential for thriving in this industry?
For a person to be successful in this industry he/she has to be proactive, analytical, empathetic and above all a good relationships manager. In addition the person needs to be greedy for a new learning every day as it all depends on the hunger to learn new things.
Any role model who has influenced you?
I admire R.K. Damani, founder of DMart, for his simple, sustainable, and proactive approach that has transformed India’s Modern Trade. His focus on simplicity deeply resonates with me. Similarly, my boss, Murtaza Mala, inspires my growth with his down-to-earth attitude and genuine humility, leaving a lasting impact on those around him.
Any memorable experience or achievement in your career that you’re proud of?
I still have the same team that we hired 10 years ago and that I think is an achievement for me as well as my company. Mala’s as a company has also ensured that all the employees are looked after well and taken care of properly.
How do you stay motivated and inspired in your role?
In challenging times, I cling to the mantra “this too shall pass” to maintain perspective. My boss’s commitment to a simple, healthy lifestyle reinforces the importance of balance. Additionally, my wife and son are my pillars of strength, providing unwavering support and motivation, empowering me to navigate difficulties with confidence.
What’s the one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
I have a strong inclination towards religion and spirituality, dedicating 30 minutes to an hour daily to draw strength and inspiration from it.
How do you stay current with the latest developments and innovations in your field?
Reading has greatly enriched my life, and traveling while meeting new people has expanded my perspective. I believe staying vigilant, especially while in-store is crucial, as both the store and customers are invaluable teachers for anyone pursuing a career in Modern Trade.
