Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal launches 8th edition of National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP)

Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal recently inaugurated the 8th edition of the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP), emphasizing the government’s commitment to promoting organic products and positioning India as a global leader in organic farming.

During the launch, Goyal highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Cooperative, Agriculture, and Commerce sectors to realize the vision of widespread organic farming across India. The updated NPOP regulations introduce several key improvements, including simplified traceability processes and more cost-effective certification methods.

He also underscored that the new edition of NPOP is expected to significantly boost exports through the National Cooperative Export Ltd. He set an ambitious target for the organic product export sector, which currently stands at approximately Rs. 5,000 crore, aiming for a fourfold increase to Rs. 20,000 crore within the next three years.

Additionally, the Union Government has established National Cooperative Organics Ltd., a dedicated organization focused on adding value to organic products by working closely with farmers. This initiative will include training in value addition, packaging, and marketing, further strengthening the organic product supply chain.
